About my Canalside Homes lists (for buyers)
A beautiful canalside house with a private mooring (this one is not for sale at the moment)

Are you looking for a canalside home? You're in the right place! If you're looking for general advice on buying a canalside home, take a look at this post instead.

My name is Sheridan, and over the years I have helped many people to buy their perfect canalside home. As far as I know, I am still the only person in the UK providing lists of canalside property in the UK, personally researched by a human. There is no better way to keep up-to-date with what's for sale along the canal. I thoroughly research the whole market and share everything I find.

My lists are divided into four price brackets, which rotate weekly:

  • Week 1 £0 to £300,000,
  • Week 2 £300,000 to £500,000,
  • Week 3 £500,000 to £700,000, and
  • Week 4 £700,000 upwards.

My research is manual, and it cannot be automated, so it takes me well over eight hours to research each list!

What do buyers see on the website?

Non-subscribers can only see one property in each list - the featured property (it costs sellers £15 to be in this top spot).

Paying subscribers can see all the properties in all of my lists (past, present, and future), for as long as they continue as a paying member.

What do buyers get by email?

Free subscribers to my newsletter get

  • a general monthly update,
  • occasional emails about specific properties for sale,
  • occasional emails about canal-related history I have researched.

Paying subscribers also get

  • weekly canalside homes lists by email (usually on a Saturday).
😜
If you only subscribe for my free newsletters you won't get my property lists!

You can stop at any time

There is no tie and no catch. Most people keep their subscription active until they have found a property, but sometimes a change of circumstances means that someone stops looking.

What properties I include

My fall-back policy for including a property is always, "If this was in my budget, would I want to view it?"

  • I include houses, bungalows, properties with moorings, land, development opportunities, park homes, and occasionally business premises (usually where there is a residential element).
  • I prefer to include properties on the offside of the canal, ideally with mooring potential, but I do include quite a few towpath side properties if they have outstanding canal views or other special features.
  • I include freeholds and leaseholds for sale by private treaty (that's normal sales), by auction, or by tender.
  • Properties are almost invariably in England, Wales, or Scotland, but occasionally I share something further afield, just for fun!

What I don't include

As this is a personally researched and curated list, I may choose not to include some properties with poor views, serious drawbacks, or negative features. I don't include:

  • Narrowboats and houseboats (unless they are included with the property).
  • Shared ownership properties.
  • Apartments and flats.
  • Short term holiday rentals.

Why do I do this?

I love helping other people to live their dream! I don't have any staff and I run this website entirely by myself. I love to hear from my readers when they are buying a house which they found through my website - it makes it all worthwhile.

I live and breathe property. I used to be an estate agent, but I am not an estate agent now. We live beside the Coventry Canal, overlooking Glascote Locks. We used to own a narrowboat, and now I work part time at Norton Canes, in Glascote Basin.

I also use this space to share my personal interests and hobbies, including genealogy. What you see is what you get!
